The BMJ (www.bmj.com - sadly no longer entirely free online) always does a thought provoking Christmas issue. This year has been no exception. It ranges from the light hearted (sword swallowing) to the - well - how do you define an article on why the Danes are (allegedly) smug?
I'd like to draw your attention in particular to the article on web 2.0. What is web 2.0? Well - you're looking at a bit of it - blogs are part of the web 2.0 concept. Web 2.0 is difficult to pin down but its defining attributes are that anyone can take part, and that information is shared. All you need to write a blog like this is the ablility to type (one finger is fine). No need for IT knowledge involving fancy acronymns.
The snippet I want to particuarly wave at you is the recommendation for Ves Dimov's medical blog - Clinical Cases and Images http://casesblog.blogspot.com/. Why not have a look and see what you think?
Happy New Year!

Introducing Clipboard
If you use Dialog with an Athens password to search for information then you may have noticed a mysterious blank search called "clipboard" that appears in the search history before you've looked for anything at all.
This is a nifty new service on Dialog. Basically it allows you to collect the items you really want from the results of several searches and stick them together on the clipboard - rather like a basket on a shopping website. Look for the "add to clipboard" buttons when you are looking at results.
To look at the clipboard go to the search page and click on "show titles" on the search line for "clipboard". You can then view and delete items, and save, email or print the clipboard just as you would any other search.
If you need help then please contact the library team.

This blog is for all users of the NHS library at Colchester General Hospital. This is where I will post information about the library - changes of opening times, changes of staff, new services - as well as handy hints on the world of information.
I'll also be providing links to other blogs and sites of interest.
Hope you'll drop in and let me know what you think.
